Online, customers can’t touch the product or ask a salesperson. The photo does both jobs. These are the mistakes we see most when reviewing stores:
1. A different background for every product
A category page with wood, white and grey backgrounds looks like a flea market, not a store. Standardise — white is the safest choice.
2. A small product in a big empty frame
On mobile the image is already small. If the product fills half of it, shoppers see nothing. Make the product fill about 85% of the frame.
3. Inconsistent sizes
Portrait and landscape shots on one page break the grid and crop products in thumbnails. Pick one size (usually square) and stick to it.
4. Heavy files
A 5 MB image slows your store, and slow stores lose customers and Google rankings. Compress before uploading without losing clarity.
5. Only one photo
Shoppers want several angles, the product in use and a sense of scale. At least five: front, side, detail, in use, packaging.
6. Text and logos on the main image
Amazon rejects main images with text, logos or watermarks. Keep text for secondary images.
7. Colours that don’t match reality
Warm lighting turns white into cream, and the item comes back as “wrong colour”. Shoot in daylight near a window and skip filters.
The quick fix
Shoot on a light background in daylight, then drop the photos into the product image prep tool: it trims, centres, whitens the background and exports Amazon, Salla or Instagram sizes in one batch — free and on your device.
